But does it come in BLACK?

If you've hung around those of the Goth/Alternative persuasion, then you'll know there is such a thing as black-envy. That feeling that someone (or possibly everyone) in the room is wearing blacker apparel than you. Has Doc Martens with more holes. More shiny, pointy accessories. But the folk in this community of odd crows and witchy spooks are definitely way cooler than such petty concerns. If they share Gothic cathedrals, it's Clermond-Ferrand - constructed of black lava rock. Their advocacy for the monsters from classic horror flicks actually make sense. Their obsessions are dark and compulsive. They know how to geek with style and deep empathy. Often, they are startlingly wholesome, in their own eccentric way, of course. Sometimes they wear a jagged pumpkin-face smile that's creepier than silence. They effortlessly channel Dracula, Wednesday Addams, Tim Burton and Lenore the Cute Dead Girl. They own their ominous aura without a hint of apology. And they won't let you forget for a moment that this is their month.

ghost stories and awesome haunted places

The countdown for Halloween has begun. In roughly 48 hours, it will be time again for scary costumes, trick or treating, distant screams, eerie music and marathon horror binge-watching sessions. Many people are already sharing horror themed lawn decorations, but this Facebook group touches on the spirit of the uncanny, with posts ranging from haunted castles and mysterious photographs to personal ghost stories and unexplained nighttime security footage. See ghost hunters at work or discuss protective measures against the supernatural. Posts and media blur the lines between the elusive safety of the mundane world and the reality of a mysterious world we know so little of.

THE BLACK CAT APPRECIATION GROUP

Continuing our special focus on animal friendly communities for World Animal day on October 4th, here's a very timely Facebook group, since October is also the month of Halloween.

According to statistics, black cats are often last to be adopted from shelters. Whether this is due to superstition or because of a witchy reputation, it's really heartening to know that black gets get plenty of love in this welcoming Facebook group for cats and their owners. If you have an appreciation for the mystique and composure of black cats, this is the perfect space for a daily fix of black cat images. You will see black cats chilling, black cats all spruced up and shiny, black cats showing off (toys, furniture, bow-ties, Halloween costumes, birthday treats) and black cat GIFs. There are also tributes to departed black cats and appeals for prayers, advice and good vibes to benefit black cats in need. Tuxedos are honorary members, and there will be the occasional non-black cat making an appearance.

Forever Fall and Halloween

If you love the smell of pumpkin spice and the sound of anything that goes bang or boo in the dark, then this Facebook Group is most definitely for you. There are many posts about horror movies to get you into the mood for Halloween. I also enjoyed several spooky art interpretations. Get ideas for porch decorations, costume design and other assorted accessories. Pay a virtual visit to some spooky places. For anyone who believes that Halloween should not be limited to one day or even one season.
